About Dr. Spikes
A native of Tifton, Dr. Spikes earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia and completed a plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Spikes specializes in advanced cosmetic procedures, reconstructive surgery, wound care and burn treatment.
Cosmetic and Reconstructive Procedures
Plastic or cosmetic surgery covers a variety of procedures which alter the body's outward appearance. Procedures are used to shape certain body parts such as the breast or nose, soften skin tone to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, and to correct problems resulting from accident or disease.
Reconstructive surgery involves the restoration of function or form to body parts that have been damaged as a result of injury, disease, or congenital defects. Reconstructive plastic surgery requires enhanced technical as well as artistic skills.

Burn Treatment
Dr. Spikes is available to help burn patients recover as fully, quickly and comfortably as possible. Throughout the healing process, Dr. Spikes uses the most advanced technologies and innovative treatments available, such as skin grafts.
A skin graft is a surgical procedure in which healthy skin is taken from one area of a patient's body and transplanted to the injured area. When a patient doesn't have enough healthy skin to donate for a graft, or is too weak for the skin removal surgery, skin from another person or animal, or a manufactured skin substitutes can be used temporarily. Another possibility is to use cultured skin, new skin grown in a lab from the patient's own skin cells.
Skin grafts are one part of the reconstruction process, designed to help burn victims return as much as possible to their normal appearance and way of life.
Wound Care
People with diabetes, poor circulation, infections or other issues can sometimes suffer from chronic or non-healing wounds. Dr. Spikes can assist in managing problem wounds, including:

Health Insurance Plans
Our office participates with some health insurance plans which cover certain reconstructive and plastic surgery procedures. Covered procedures will vary with each insurance company -- our office staff will assist you in determining eligibility. Patients are responsible for deductibles, co-payments and remaining balances.
