LIVING. Tifton’s 15-block historical district has homes ranging from Victorian mansions to Colonial Revival Cottages. Downtown Tifton is alive with shopping, dining and entertainment thanks to a growing community and designation as a national “Main Street” site, showcasing an ongoing revitalization based on historic preservation. Along with new subdivisions, lakeside homes and country residences, Tift County’s housing market has broad appeal.
SCHOOLS. With a focus on academic excellence, the Tift County public school system has six elementary schools, two middle schools, one junior high and one high school. The new, state-of-the-art Tift County High School is the largest educational facility of its kind in all of Georgia. Tiftarea Academy is a private school offering pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education with a strong emphasis on college preparation. Central Christian Academy uses the Abeka Christian school cirriculum and provides a program for children ages 3 through sixth grade.
HIGHER LEARNING. Tifton is the location of Georgia’s largest two-year institution for higher learning, Abraham Baldwin College. The school offers associate degrees in over 50 majors and is currently introducing four-year degrees through the University of Georgia. Moultrie Technical College also provides a host of vocational degrees and continuing education programs at its Tiftarea Technical Center. Combined with research facilities like the University of Georgia-Tifton Campus and Coastal Plains Experiment Station, Tifton has more Ph.D graduates per capita than anywhere else in the nation.
RECREATION. With the Tift County Recreation Department, YMCA and local gyms, those who wish to maintain an active lifestyle through organized sports and personal fitness will find Tifton ideal. State parks and nearby lakes (including sprawling Lake Blackshear, covering 8,000 acres) offer an abundance of camping, hiking, fishing and boating opportunities. Golfers can take a swing at Pine Island, Forest Lakes or Sunsweet golf clubs. Get a relaxing therapeutic massage or manicure at one of many salons in town. Take the kids go-kart racing at Fun City USA or have a picnic in Fulwood Park.
CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT. The Tift Theater, the Tift County Performing Arts Center and Abraham Baldwin College Arts Station provide the best in culturally-enriching entertainment, including music concerts, plays and ballets. The nationally-recognized Love Affair event, held each May in Fulwood Park, celebrates the fine, performing and visual arts. Museums include the Georgia Agrirama, Atlantic Coastline Artists Station and Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage.
CENTRALIZED LOCATION. Many of the Southeast’s attractions are only a few hours drive away from Tifton, including large metropolitan areas like Atlanta, Jacksonville and Orlando as well as natural wonders such as the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf Coast and Okefenokee Swamp.
