Exercise is an important factor in heart health
During the month of February, there is a lot of talk about heart health and ways you can make your heart healthier, but did you know that regular exercise is one of the best things you can do to keep your heart healthy?

Exercise increases your heart rate and gets blood pumping to working muscles in the short term, and over time, regular exercise helps you to develop a stronger heart. It also reduces your risk of coronary artery disease and helps deliver oxygen to the working muscles more effectively. It can also help you cope with increased physical stress more effectively.

“Regular exercise is a crucial component of a healthy heart,” said Dr. Jonathan Tronolone with Tronolone Cardiology. “It has great benefits for your heart, but it can also help your immune system, your lungs, and help you stay healthy overall.”

Although the benefits of regular exercise, particularly for heart health, are evident, Tronolone stresses that it does take patience.

“Many people get bored of working out or lose steam when they don’t see immediate results,” Tronolone said. “It’s important to be patient and persevere in order to see the long term results of regular exercise, such as weight loss and a stronger heart.

“Start off small, with something like walking, or even try to turn fun things like a shopping excursion into a way to exercise. Although it’s easy to come up with excuses, once you start exercising regularly, you’ll be glad you stuck with it.”
