Football coaches to preview upcoming season at Tift Regional event

‘Kick-off to Men’s Health’ also includes free screenings and a seminar on sports concussions

Tift Regional Health System (TRHS) is gearing up for its annual Kick-off to Men’s Health to be held on Saturday, July 29, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at the Tift Regional Community Events Center.

“This event brings the excitement of the upcoming high school football season together with free medical screenings and health information for men,” said Kristy Walters, TRHS community events coordinator.

High school football coaches from Cook High, Fitzgerald High, Irwin County, Tift County, Tiftarea Academy, Turner County, and Worth County will preview their 2017 seasons and answer questions from fans.  The coaches’ forum will be hosted by Chris Beckham, host of the Football Friday Night syndicated radio program that airs throughout the season.

"Nothing gets South Georgia charged-up like high school football," Beckham said. "During our panel, area coaches will provide insight on their teams and schedules.  They’ll also take questions from the audience on what can be expected for the upcoming season.”

The free medical screenings and health information will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and will include blood pressure screenings and lipid panels that will check blood sugar, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.  Screening slots are limited and are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Neurologist George Shokri, M.D. with Affinity Clinic and athletic trainer Steven Goldman, ATC will provide a seminar at 9:00 a.m. on sports concussions.  The coaches’ forum will begin at 10:00 a.m. Complimentary refreshments will also be available.

In addition to the screenings and presentations, a $250 “fan friendzy” grand prize will be given to the school’s football booster club with the most fans in attendance.  Door prizes include a 50” HD TV, portable grill with accessories, Yeti cup, gift cards and more.

The Tift Regional Community Events Center is located in Tifton at 1657 South Carpenter Road in the Tiftarea YMCA building. The event is free and requires no registration. For more information, call Tift Regional Health System’s Outreach and Development Department at 353-6318, or visit
