Tift Regional offers pediatric hospitalist program

Affinity Pediatric Building
Affinity Pediatrics, based in Tifton, manages a pediatric hospitalist program at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Tift Regional Medical Center (TRMC) wants the community to know that it offers a pediatric hospital medicine service and parents in Southwest Georgia do not have to take their children out of the region for inpatient care.
It was reported in the local media in July that pediatric hospital medicine services were being discontinued in Albany and patients would have to travel to Navicent Health in Macon for inpatient care.  According to Cara Goodwin, R.N., TRMC’s pediatrics nurse manager, there is another option.
“TRMC has had a pediatric hospital medicine program in place for many years now,” said Goodwin.  “It is staffed and managed by Affinity Pediatrics, a pediatric practice in Tifton which is owned by the hospital.  In fact, TRMC recently recruited two new pediatric hospital medicine providers to join the practice.”
A pediatric hospitalist provides care for young patients during their stay at the hospital.  TRMC has an 18-bed pediatric unit and offers a child life specialist program.   Laurel Lamb, CCLS, Tift Regional’s certified child life specialist, is a pediatric health care professional who works with children and families during hospital stays to help them cope with the challenges of hospitalization, illness and disability.
“We have specially-trained nurses and support staff who know and understand kids,” said Goodwin.  “Our favorable nurse-to-patient ratio allows staff to observe each patient closely.  We have spacious inpatient rooms with adequate sleeping space for parents to stay with their children overnight.”
The pediatricians with Affinity Pediatrics include Dixie Griffin, M.D., Flavia Rossi, M.D., Kimberly Works, M.D., Teresa Stewart, M.D., Mark Wilson, M.D., Henry LeBoyd, II, M.D. and Rebecca Staub, M.D.   The advanced practice providers with Affinity Pediatrics include Allison Presley, FNP-C, Ramona Cawley, FNP-C, Kelly Grummer-Smith, FNP-C, Monica Davis, FNP-C, Lyn Parson, NP and Alisha Holloway, FNP-C
In addition to inpatient pediatric care, Affinity Pediatrics offers pediatric outpatient care and adolescent medicine, including preventative health maintenance for healthy children and medical care for those who are sick. The providers at Affinity Pediatrics diagnose and treat injuries, illnesses, chronic conditions, infectious diseases and other types of disorders in infants, children and adolescents.  Affinity Pediatrics also specializes in vaccines, asthma management, international medicine and behavioral and developmental health for children.

“Thanks to Affinity Pediatrics, TRMC can offer pediatric hospitalist services 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week,” said Goodwin.  “The providers strive to provide exemplary family-centered care to our patients and families and provide seamless communication to referring community providers.”

Goodwin added that TRMC is also the only hospital within the region that offers pediatric physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services.
