We talked to Garrett Mizell, Practice Manager for Cook Family Wellness Center, to learn more about this department and the new developments they have experienced since March. Read on to find out more!
Where is your department located?
Cook Family Wellness Center is located across the street from Cook Medical Center in Adel.
What is your department’s responsibility?
Cook Family Wellness Center operates as a primary care clinic, but we also offer a Convenient Care clinic for minor injuries and illnesses with evening and weekend hours. Our team of convenient care professionals offers treatment for adults and children. We offer a complete laboratory for stat labs, computerized tomography (CT), x-rays, ultrasound, electrocardiogram (EKG), and intravenous therapy. Our physicians and advanced practice providers are also skilled in suturing and I&D procedures.
Providers include Dr. Vincent Valencia, Dannyelle Booth, PA-C, Jeannetta Brooks, NP-C, David Vickers, NP-C, Ferrell Soles, NP-C, and Priscilla Greene, NP-C. We have a full team of nurses and office staff to assist our patients.
What is an interesting fact about your department?
Cook Family Wellness Center began offering the Convenient Care clinic in March of this year. When the emergency room at Cook Medical Center closed, Convenient Care opened as an alternative for patients who were seeking access to care for minor injuries and illnesses during regular hours, as well as evening and weekend hours. We accept walk-ins and have seen a great success and satisfaction rate with the patients who utilize our services.
What is something about your department that most people don’t know?
Since the ER closed, we are continuously educating the public that our Convenient Care clinic is available to treat minor injuries and illnesses, which reduces ER visits. Most community members are not aware that we offer radiology services within the clinic, and that our wait times are well below 30 minutes, or that we offer x-ray services and EKGs with in the clinic. Through teamwork with Cook Medical Center, we can also perform computerized tomography (CT), ultrasounds, full laboratory testing, intravenous therapy. When needed, we can admit patients as inpatients to Cook Medical Center or Tift Regional Medical Center. This diagnostic capability saves many patients time and money by avoiding costly ER visits.
How is your staff dedicated to serving the mission of TRHS?
Our staff at Cook Family Wellness Center recognizes that our priority is to serve the patient and their family to the best of our ability. Whether it is in primary or convenient care, we strive to provide the best experience to our patients through communication and working together as a team.
